Character and Values

Character and Values

Character is the choices that you make based upon your values. Character is basically who you are. Are you honest, kind and true? Are you scheming, mean and a liar? An old saying says, Character is what you do when no one is looking.

Values are the things you believe to be right or wrong based upon what you have been taught.

Character and values can change over, they can be shaped to make you a better soldier, or better employee or a better person.

Sometimes character and values can change to make you a not so better person. Strong character and values in our young people will make a better community for us all.

We have a responsibility to instill strong character into our youth.  This can be done by holding them accountable for their actions, and using discipline as way to shape behavior.  Discipline does not always involve spanking a young person.   There is time out, grounding, no phone,  or no video games.

When my son turned 10, he started acting up in school.  Wouldn’t you know,  that  at that very time I needed 2 new flower beds to be dug.  I needed the basement to be cleaned out and the garage needed cleaning too.

I ended up with one of the most well-behaved 11 or 12 year old  kids you ever wanted to meet.  By the way he turned out to be a decent adult.

Don’t be too hard on them, but a little good  old fashioned  discipline goes a long way.

Here are some defining words for character and values.  STRONG is an acronym using some character and value words.
