Choosing Role Models

A Role Model is a person you can look up to, someone who can inspire you to be the best you can be. A Role Model is someone who can encourage you to reach your goals.

Everyone needs a good role model in their life, they inspire us to be our best. A role model is a person that you look up to and respect. You may even desire to be more like that person. You may copy their mannerisms, or use the same phrases they use. Choose your role models carefully, if a role model is behaving in a manner that is contradictory to your particular goals, values, and aspirations, you may need to change role models.

Role models are important, they help us achieve goals, stay focused and persevere. They inspire us to make a difference. Choosing a good role model means that you will be properly influenced and you can achieve your goals. You might even become a role model yourself one day. When choosing a role model, consider these things.

  • People are not perfect, don’t expect them to be.

  • Look for someone who is living life that you would like to live. If you want to be an author, your role model could be someone who has been successful at writing.

  • If you have always wanted to be a nurse, your role model could be someone at your local hospital who is dedicated to their job

  • Your role model should be someone who you look up to for their achievements.

  • Perhaps Mother Theresa is a good role model for you.

  • Look for key characteristics that you want to achieve.

  • Choose a role model who may have done something you find admirable, like great charity work, or community service.

  • Maybe that person is a successful sports figure who has a good business sense, or a teacher who really does care whether you learn or not.

  • Look for someone who has good characteristics that you don’t have yet.

  • Choose someone who has a sense of purpose. A good role model would be someone who knows who they are and stands on what is right.

  • Consider someone who thinks it is all right to be unique, even if that means accepting some ridicule.
  • A good role model should make you feel good about being yourself.
  • look for someone who is kind, considerate and caring. Someone who is patient and easy to talk to.

  • look for someone who is not out to get the glory.

  • Focus on what is good; don’t emulate what is bad.

  • You don’t have to become exactly like your role model, remember to be yourself.

  • True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have.

  • Role models are also those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people.

  • Sometimes, we don’t recognize people we are modeling ourselves after. But our growth will reveal it later.

  • Remember the local drug dealer may be living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, but do you really want to use that person as your role model?
